It can be hard to understand everything that is being said in English, especially if you are a beginner. One technique you can use it to listen to key words or important words in sentences being said e.g. someone says ‘What time do we have to buy our tickets for the movie?’. Instead of trying to listen and understand all the words, listen for key words like ‘time’ or ‘ticket’ or ‘movie’. You can piece together what might be said. This is helpful when someone is speaking really fast. As your listening improves, you should listen out for certain grammar points to be more accurate e.g. someone say ‘Have you ever been to Australia?’ and you say ‘I’m not going’. Maybe you heard ‘Are you going to Australia?’.So listen out for ‘Have’ and ‘ever been’. You can make your response accurately from that and say ‘I have never been’ Try to get the general meaning of what is being said and then tune in to the finer details. Hopefully this can help you!
