The other day, I was sitting outside eating lunch, when all of a sudden a foreigner approached me and said ‘Hello’. He started talking to me and asking questions about myself and some advice. I think it was very nice and it reminded me of home. In Canada, and even in the US, many people like to say ‘Hello’ and make small talk/conversations because they want to meet people and be kind and friendly. This is a good way to practice English and also to make friends. In Japan, it might not be common to do this but I think in order to learn a new, foreign language, it’s best to try and do as the locals do. So try saying ‘Hello’ and approach foreigners in Japan and ask about their lives. I’m sure they’ll be happy to talk to you!
